PROMESSAS MATRIMONIAIS

Em maio de 98, escrevi um texto em que afirmava que achava bonito o ritual do casamento a igreja, com seus vestidos brancos e tapetes vermelhos, mas que a única coisa que me desagradava era o sermão do padre:

"Promete ser fiel na alegria e na tristeza, na saúde e na doença, amando-lhe e respeitando-lhe até que a morte os separe?"

Acho simplista e um pouco fora da realidade.

Dou aqui novas sugestões de sermões:

Promete não deixar a paixão fazer de você uma pessoa controladora, e sim respeitar a individualidade do seu amado, lembrando sempre que ele não pertence a você e que está ao seu lado por livre e espontânea vontade?

Promete saber ser amiga(o) e ser amante, sabendo exatamente quando devem entrar em cena uma e outra, sem que isso lhe transforme numa pessoa de dupla identidade ou numa pessoa menos romântica?

Promete fazer da passagem dos anos uma via de amadurecimento e não uma via de cobranças por sonhos idealizados que não chegaram a se concretizar?

Promete sentir prazer de estar com a pessoa que você escolheu e ser feliz ao lado dela pelo simples fato de ela ser a pessoa que melhor conhece você e portanto a mais bem preparada para lhe ajudar, assim como você a ela?

Promete se deixar conhecer?

Promete que seguirá sendo uma pessoa gentil, carinhosa e educada, que não usará a rotina como desculpa para sua falta de humor?

Promete que fará sexo sem pudores, que fará filhos por amor e por vontade, e não porque é o que esperam de você, e que os educará para serem independentes e bem informados sobre a realidade que os aguarda?

Promete que não falará mal da pessoa com quem casou só para arrancar risadas dos outros?

Promete que a palavra liberdade seguirá tendo a mesma importância que sempre teve na sua vida, que você saberá responsabilizar-se por si mesmo sem ficar escravizado pelo outro e que saberá lidar com sua própria solidão, que casamento algum elimina?

Promete que será tão você mesmo quanto era minutos antes de entrar na igreja?

There was an important game, Sao Paulo and Palmeiras were to play...Everybody in Morumbi was sad, and both rival clubs started singing Senna's name all together. Even today is impossible not to feel it!

What in the World Are You Doing?

"Hi there, Chris Widener here. This week I want to talk with you about leaving an impact legacy. "What is an impact legacy?" you may ask. It is how you impact people and the world around you. You see, many people glide through life and do not make much of an impact. That is unfortunate. Others though, those driven by a purpose and passion for living, are continually making the world a better place and making an impact wherever they go. That's what I believe you want to do.

In order to help you reflect on this during this week, I want to ask you a question:

What in the world are you doing?

Here is the typical life - typical, though not everybody does it this way. But for the most part, people's lives generally go something like this:

You're born

You eat and sleep

You play with toys

You go to school

You play little league

You go to school

You learn to drive

You go to school

You leave high school

You go to more school, but you pay for it now

You get a job

You get married

You buy a house

You have kids

You watch your kids eat, sleep, play and go to school

You work, work, and work

You retire

You die

That's the basic life, isn't it? I know there is more to it, but that is about it for most people.

Here is that question again: What in the world are you doing?

I mean, what are you doing besides the typical "enjoying yourself while you are waiting to die" scenario? What kind of impact are you making?

What I believe sets the successful apart is that they don't just live the average life. They don't just pass time. They make an impact. They have something compelling in their life that drives them - something that gives them an answer when they are asked that question: What in the world are you doing?

I'm helping children.

I'm creating a business that supports many families.

I lead a church.

I am defending our liberties.

I am raising great children.

I'm teaching others to improve their lives.

I help people have fun.

I create memories for people.

In other words, successful people always come down to this:

I make an impact and help other people by (fill in your purpose here).

What in the world are you doing?

If you want to be successful, you need to be able to answer that by describing how you help others. Because if you aren't helping others - if you aren't making an impact - you are just taking up space, eating food and waiting to die.

Here's the question for you to answer this week and what to do with your answer:

What in the world are you doing?

If you know, then you are good to go - live it and make an impact!

If you don't know, then maybe you need to reflect on what you are doing, what your life is about, and how you can explode the mundane bubble you may be living in!

The world needs impact makers - so live to be one!

Essa é a vida básica, não é? Eu sei que tem mais nisso, porém isso é tudo para a maioria das pessoas.

Aqui está aquela pergunta novamente: O que você está fazendo no mundo?

Eu quero dizer, o que você está fazendo além do típico "divertir-se enquanto espera morrer" cenário? Que tipo de impacto você está fazendo?

O que eu acredito que determina os bem sucedidos é que eles não vivem simplismente uma vida mediana. Eles não somente passam o tempo. Eles fazem um impacto. Eles tem alguma coisa irresistível na vida deles que os impulsiona - alguma coisa que dá à eles a resposta quando eles são perguntados aquela pergunta: o que no mundo você está fazendo?

Eu estou ajudando crinaças

Eu estou criando um negócio que sustenta muitas famílias

Eu conduzo uma igreja

Eu estou defendendo nossa liberdade

Eu estou criando ótimas crianças

Eu estou ensinando outros a melhorar a vida deles

Eu ajudo pessoas a se divertirem

Eu crio memórias para as pessoas

Em outras palavras, pessoas de sucesso sempre aparecem com aldo do tipo:

Eu faço um impacto e ajudo as outras pessoas a (preencha o propósito aqui).

O que você está fazendo no mundo?

Eu quero que você seja bem sucedido, você precisa ser capaz de responder isso descrevendo como você ajuda os outros. Por que se você não está ajudando os outros - se você não está fazendo um impacto - você está apenas tomando espaço, comendo comida e esperando pela morte.

Aqui está a pergunta para você responder essa semana e o que fazer com sua resposta:

O que você está fazendo no mundo?

Se você sabe, então você está pronto para ir - viva e cause um impacto!

Saudades....

A palavra Saudade...

SAUDADE is a Portuguese word for a feeling of longing for something you are fond of, which is gone, but might return in a distant future. It often carries a fatalist tone and a repressed knowledge that the object of longing might really never return.

Saudade is generally considered one of the hardest words to translate. It originated from the Latin word solitate (loneliness, solitude), but with a different meaning. Loneliness in Portuguese is solidão, also with the same word origin. Few other languages in the world have a word with such meaning, making Saudade a distinct mark of Portuguese culture.

In Portuguese, this word serves to describe the feeling of missing someone (or something) you're fond of. For instance, the sentence "Eu sinto muitas saudades tuas" (I feel so much "saudade" of you) directly translates into "I miss you so much". "Eu sinto muito a tua falta" also has the same meaning in English ("falta" and "saudades" both are translated for missing), but it is different in Portuguese. It also relates to feelings of melancholy and fond memories of gone-by days, lost love and a general feeling of unhappiness.

Saudade is different from nostalgia. In nostalgia, one has a mixed happy and sad feeling. A memory of happiness but a sadness for its impossible return and sole existence in the past. Saudade is like nostalgia but with the hope that what is being longed for might return, even if that return is unlikely or so distant in the future to be almost of no consequence to the present. One might make a strong analogy of Nostalgia as a feeling one has for a loved one that has died and saudade as a feeling one has for a loved one that has disappeared. Nostalgia is located in the past and is somewhat conformist while saudades is very present, anguishing, anxious and extends to the future.

Historical origins

Some specialists say that this word has come to life during the Great Portuguese Discoverires, giving meaning to the sadness felt by those who departed in journeys to the unknown seas. Those who stayed behind—mostly women and children—deeply suffered with their absence, and such state has almost become a "Portuguese way of life": the constant feeling of absence, the sadness of something that's missing, the wistful longing for completeness or wholeness and the yearning for presence (as opposed to absence), that is to say, a strong desire to matar saudades (literally, to kill the saudade).In the latter half of the 20th century Saudade has become associated with the feeling of longing for one's homeland, as hundreds of thousands of Portuguese-speaking people left in search of better futures in North America and Northern Europe.

Saudade and Love

Although named by the Portuguese, saudade is a universal feeling related to love. It occurs when two people are in love, but apart from each other. Saudade occurs when we are thinking of a person whom we love and we are happy about having that feeling while we are thinking of that person, but he/she is out of reach, making us sad and we start to feel our heart crushing. The pain and these mixed feelings are named Saudade. It is also used to refer to the feeling of being far from people you do love, e.g., your sister, your father, your grandparents, your friends; it can be applied to places you miss, pets you miss, things you used to do in your childhood, in the past...

"Bono will donate one of his guitars to benefit Brazil's Zero Hunger campaign, the government's official news agency said Monday." (NY Times) And the "guy" with Bono in that picture is Luiz Inácio LULA da Silva, Brazilian President ;-)

It's amazing how a lyrinc song can mean so much and most of the time we take it for grant not paying enough attention on it! Today during U2 concert (on TV :-( ) I was paying attention on it and it's just AMAZING!!! I felt like putting all their lyrics here...hehe...but just 2 is enough for today ;-)

You can name at least 30 novelas and 10000 actors/actresses. (I can't)

You travel to Brazil and instead of taking a suitcase with all your stuff, you take presents for the entire family, the dog, the neighbor, not to mention the old/used clothes that you take just in case someone needs it.

You take soccer too seriously.

You live in Florida, New York, New Jersey, or Massachusetts. (Do I know any Brasilian in Florida? hehe)

You eat rice and beans at least 7 days a week.

You leave your house spotless when you have people coming over.

An ideal woman is a woman with small breasts and a big butt.

You understand & speak Spanish, but when you say a word in Portuguese no one understands you. (cultural note: portugues was create in a way to spanish speakers dont undestand it :D)

Your jokes are always about Portuguese people.

You go to a birthday party, and you can't leave until you take that piece of cake home. (omg...only if you have kids or brothers...hehe)

You know what Capoeira is.

You know a lot about Samba and Pagode. (not a lot just what we are "obliged" to)

You`ve studied the history of almost every country.

Your breakfast consists of milk and coffee, bread with butter, and a piece of cake. (and no eggs)

Everyone thinks you're everything but Brazilian.

You wear slippers..a lot!

You know who Os Trapalhoes, Turma da Monica, Zico, Caetano Veloso, Tom Jobim, Elis Regina, Ronaldinho, Jo Soares, Cazuza, Gilberto Gil, Silvio Santos, Roberto Carlos, Ayrton Senna, and Carmem Miranda are.

You go to a bar and ask for salgadinhos with guarana. (coxinha com catupiry :D and If you dont know what those things are, means you are not brasilian...lol btw they are snaks)

You are so used to corruption that nothing surprises you anymore. (the saddest truth)

You dont care about race or color. And once you come to the US, you realize what racism means.

You have a sense of fashion.

You know how to play volleyball and handball. (yes! Its not all about soccer)

You always taking pictures everywhere you go.

You know what it's like to buy liquor without an ID.

You know how to party, and if the party isnt over after 5am...its not a party!

Any holiday...being it official or not, is an excuse to stay home from work and take a week vacation. (okay, that's true...but a week is too much its "just" 4 days...hehe)

You know what feijoada and pave are. (hummm LOVE it! And you know you are not brazilian when you eat Feijoada and almost die...lol)

You dress up to go to the supermarket. (well..you never know who you can see there :P)

You spend a entire day at the beach.

You are too friendly.

You're proud to be Brazilian - and you pass these jokes on to all your Brazilian friends!
